"Sambo" - Cat with Broken Leg and Jaw
| Sadly the "credit crunch" has no effect on the incidence of disease or trauma. Consequently, at Fairfield there is no decrease in the number of patients who require our assistance in restoring them to good health. In these troubled times the disease or injuries may not be life threatening but the costs required to achieve this might! "Sambo", a young cat, was involved in a road traffic accident causing a severe injury to his front leg and a broken jaw. Whilst black cats are meant to be lucky, I am not entirely sure that their colour makes it very easy for car drivers to take appropriate evasive action when required. It was clear immediately on his presentation that the amount of work required to resolve these injuries was both substantial and costly. Reconstructive surgery for broken bones is really the only option when the injuries are this severe. Unfortunately for his owners he was not insured. Despite this they resolved to ensure that he received the very best care required to achieve this. Their input in ensuring that he was given every opportunity to recuperate was the main factor in his eventual recovery to full health. Perhaps he carries some elements of good fortune after all.
