"Pippy" - Parrot with Accelerated Beak Growth
Caged birds are a very underrated pet in my opinion. Whilst their initial cost can vary in price from £15 up to £2000 their daily maintenance requires much less investment both in cost and time. Additionally, they can provide hours of endless entertainment and pleasure for the owner simply by observing their inquisitive nature. This natural curiosity requires feeding every bit as much as their daily diet of seed, fresh fruit and vegetables. Any lack of stimulation for caged birds, especially the larger parrots, can lead to an extremely frustrating behavioural disorder where birds begin to pluck their own feathers causing areas of baldness. "Pippy" is a much less common variety of caged bird (South American Dwarf Parrot) than those we see on a more regular basis at Fairfield. He combines the character and personality of his larger cousins in a smaller package that is much more easy to handle and less capable of inflicting painful wounds to any attending veterinary surgeon. . . a highly prized attribute for any pet! Unfortunately he has begun to develop an acceleration of his beak growth which now requires regular trimming and filing. Whilst this necessitates regular visits to the Fairfield Veterinary Centre his confident and affable nature mean that he simply regards all the attention and change of scenery as a grand day out! |
