In May 2000 I applied for and got the job of receptionist
at Fairfield Veterinary Centre. Now here I am in September
2004 as Practice manager. However I'm still to be found
on reception during evening surgery and on some Saturdays.
Fairfield isn't my first experience of veterinary practice.
Way back in 1966 when I left school, I worked for the veterinary
surgeon in my hometown of Wisbech. I enrolled as a trainee
animal nursing auxiliary, a scheme, which at that time was
in its infancy. The Royal college of nursing would not give
permission, at that time, for the word nurse to be used.
